Hello All,

Welcome from the Chief Seattle Council Venturing Officers' Association! The
VOA is a group of officers and advisers working to represent you and
provide units the resources they need to run a successful program. As this
is our first email, it is somewhat lengthy, but please read it all.

There are several things you can look forward to from us this year:

*Improved Communications*
The VOA is making an effort to reach out to Venturers all over the Puget
Sound area. We want to know the great things going on in our Scouting
community, as well as how we can improve and expand our program.  In the
next several weeks, the VOA will be launching a new website to help.
Look for social media integration, interactive content, and
opportunities for networking. In the meantime, details on our events and
programs can be found at www.seattlebsa.org/venturing.

*Better Support for Unit Programs*
Ever wanted to get certified as a whitewater guide or COPE instructor? Get
trained in First Aid or Leave No Trace? Interested in taking up SCUBA or a
new hobby? In addition to Scouting training programs, the VOA is proud to
offer opportunities for units to train Venturers and enhance the programs
back in their home crew or ship. Hands-on training, expert instruction, and
an adventure lecture series is just the beginning.

*Clusters*
To better meet the needs of local units, the VOA is in the process of
establishing clusters, groups of three districts that collaborate to share
ideas To make this work, we need youth who are willing to step up and take
charge of their Venturing experience. If you are interested in serving as a
cluster officer, let us know and respond to this email.

Many of you have also been asking about our fall events, and here's the
details on those:

*Venturing Leadership Summit*
This event, taking place September 29 at the Council Office, is a chance
for Venturing officers to meet their VOA counterparts and establish a
vision for the year. Learn about events, advancement, program opportunities
and more. Officers will also have the opportunity to experience a unique
leadership development course, developed by the VOA. All crew and ship
officers are encouraged to attend. Online registration will be up in the
next few days, but if you or someone in your unit interested let us know by
responding to this message. A flyer is attached.
**
*VOA @ PTC*
The Venturing community will be making an appearance at the Program and
Training Conference on October 20. Help spread the word about Venturing and
let others know about the great things happening with our program.
**
*Fall Rendezvous*
The Fall Rendezvous, formerly known as the Autumn Venturing Rendezvous,
will take place at Camp Parsons on scenic Hood Canal October 26-28. Meet
Venturers and Sea Scouts from other Crews and Ships, and learn about the
unique programs opportunities available in our local Scouting community
from the people that make it happen. Get ready for
training, demonstrations, a visit from the Sea Scout fleet, the Venturing
Octopus Cup, and maybe even a Zombie Night Hike! In particular, we're
looking for crews with unique programs and talents to show their stuff.
**
