[Don't Panic!] Kayaking the Columbia?

At the annual planning meeting back in August, we chatted about a kayaking
trek down the Columbia River. Marj found an article that provides some
background that you may find as a short and interesting read.

We could make this as long or as short as we wish, depending on the group.
We could start far upriver and go downstream toward Bonneville, or start at
Bonneville and go to Portland, or even just duplicate what the author did
from Camas to beyond Crims Island. The important rule of thumb for the
Columbia: while the currents are in your favor, the afternoon winds can be
an invisible hand that holds you in place. You need to get up early and
paddle until you take out at your next site right after lunchtime. The
beauty of a Columbia paddle is breathtaking and we can have fantastic
shoreside support, even to the point of carrying all our food and gear!

This could be a future event. Meanwhile, of course, you still need to
continue your planning for the announced Salmon River rafting expedition.
As consultant, I can assist the appointed Superactivity Committee with that
effort.

Yours in Adventure,

John
