Crew,
We had a very successful day at the Karrens on Saturday and a great BBQ.
Thank you, Karren Family, for your outstanding hospitality!
We managed to introduce a few changes to the Crew ByLaws, which will be
voted upon at the September business meeting
Determining the 2013 Superactivity/Kodiak Challenge was, well, challenging
but fun. We brainstormed for almost a half-hour, exhausting everyone's
ideas, both youth and adult, and then multivoted until we had three
remaining events, which were then finally voted to a priorized order. We
wanted to avoid any conflict with the National Jamboree dates of July 15-24.
We felt so strongly about the three final event candidates, that we decided
to place ALL THREE on the calendar. A small committee of youth for each
event will plan the details.
In June 2013, we will assemble a 4-5 day Cycling Trip to the San Juan
Islands. There is no minimum or maximum to the number who can go. Costs
will be kept to a mimimum, targeting under $150.
In July 2013, we will travel to White Bird, Idaho and raft
the Salmon River to the confluence of the Salmon and Snake Rivers. We will
then board a jet boat and ride through Hell's Canyon back to White Bird.
Counting the full day's drive at the beginning and end, this will be a 7 day
event and should cost $600 each. If we can assemble a maximum of 25 people,
the cost can be reduced to $550 or less. There is a minimum of 10 required.
We will leave very early on Sunday, June 30th and return late on Saturday,
July 6th.
In August 2013, and not to conflict with various band camps,
we will kayak the Columbia River from west of Bonneville Dam to the sea, or
as far as we can make it. The total distance could be 146 mles, but we will
plan for morning-only paddling to avoid afternoon winds, and calculate for
tidal current effects on the river if and when we pass Longview. This will
be a 6 or 7 day trip and costs will be kept to a minimum, targeting under
$250.
For the remainder of the year, starting very soon, the Crew decided on the
following mini-events. Some dates are generalized, some specific. All we
be posted on the Crew calendar by the new VP Comms after the September
elections.
