Venturing Crew 42

We began with the opening activity of “The Sun Shines On” and opened with the Venturing Oath and Pledge of Allegiance.

Following the opening, Mr. Steve Hirsch, the Orca District Scouting Executive, and a seasoned Philmont veteran, spoke to us about his experiences at the Scout Ranch.  Immediately following this, the Crew reviewed Jeff for the Gold Award, which he passed with flying colors! [yay Jefe!]

Then we discussed the Dosewallips trip (which was a blast, if I do say so myself!), and the next backpacking trip (in April) for which Jeff and Dante have graciously volunteered to be the Gear Committee Chair and Cooking Committee Chair (respectively) for.  In addition, we have voted on our top 5 treks for Philmont, with trek number 14 coming out on top.

Following that portion of the meeting, Mr. Z did a question-and-answer Philmont Briefing.

The Crew has decided that we will participate in a COPE/shooting event the weekend of May 7^th to 9^th at Camp Pigott; so far only Jeff and Christian are signed up.  We are planning on a kayaking trip in August; further information will come. Lastly, we are planning on a Sequim to PA biking trip, perhaps before Philmont?

Other Things to remember:

-         2010 PHILMONT MEDICAL FORMS!!!!!!!

-         VLSC: April 9-10; $15 per person.  No preferences on meals; We have Jeff, Eric, Dante, Cassi, Krly, Christian, Brody, Jake, and Samm signed up.

-         Woodbadge 2010: April 17^th is site selection/ development; May 13^th to May 15^th is the weekend of Woodbadge. We plan to arrive after after school on the 13^th to decide how to present LNT.  We will be eating with a different patrol for each meal.  LNT and Team building will be done round robin style. And remember, there will be a conservation project. We have Jeff, Karly, Christian, Thomas, Selene, Brody, Jake, Dante, and Eric signed up.
