Vision Statement of our Crew:
"Through patriotism, service, and self-development, we are ambassadors for Venturing - pursuing adventure, fellowship, and the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything."
(Written at the ILSC, December 28, 2012)
Welcome to Venturing Crew 1042 (aka Crew 42) of Kitsap County in Western Washington. We're located over at the edge of the World Wide Web, just around the corner from the end of the Universe. What do we do? We backpack: whether it's in our backyard Olympic Mountain Range, the nearby Cascades, or in the southern Rockies at Philmont. We float: all around Puget Sound in kayaks, down exciting whitewater wilderness rivers in rafts, or aboard sailing craft. We've hiked, biked, climbed, snow-shoed, roller skated, ice skated, fenced, shot rifles, blackpowder muskets, revolvers, and semi-automatics. We build things around the neighborhood and give service to other Scouting entities and community organizations. We train ourselves. We train others. We have fun. Most importantly, we develop leadership.
We have a Crew business meeting on the last Thursday of every month on Magrathea, aka the Masonic Lodge at 32359 Rainier Avenue in Port Gamble. Please click on our calendar tab and see what's coming up on our schedule. While you're checking out the rest of the site, go ahead and view our Photo Album, read some of our email chatter, sign our guestbook, and surf on the other links. Send your questions to

In an electoral landslide, our Chris Z was elected to a second term as the Order of the Arrow's Section Chief for Western Washington and Alaska at the recent Section W-1N Conclave at Camp Pigott. This year's Conclave set a new record for attendance at 348, which filled the Camp and the program to capacity with outstanding workshops, outdoor events, shows, and a fantastic Potlatch in the new Longhouse.
So what does a Section Chief do? Great question. The answers are not just listed, but are part of the training that all Arrowmen receive when they attend a National Leadership Seminar. You can view it on the Regional site, and if you're interested...why not attend an NLS? There will be one in Portland, OR this fall!
Venturing and the Order of the Arrow are not mutually exclusive programs and that Crew 42 has always enjoyed a host of active Arrowmen in the unit only proves that point. Did you know that the Crew was actually founded by group of OA ceremonialists? |

In a pleasant surprise, Unit Commissioner Bob Wojcikowski visited our last Crew business meeting and presented our 2012 Journey to Excellence Gold Award ribbon in behalf of the Chief Seattle Council. Although we'd won top honors for each year of the Crew's existence, it's been rare that the ribbons would accompany the award. Luckily, this year was different in so many ways!
Congrats Crew...for a job well done. Remember, you are entitled to wear the 2012 JTE on the bottom of your right sleeve if you were a member at any time during the year.
