As some of you may know, the Crew went ice skating on December 19 and I think it turned out alright. It started with us arriving and doing some negotiations to end up getting a good deal on skates and the entrance fee. Our crew then went out and skated for awhile with some memorable experiences such as a few stumbles and some accidental falls. A few other guys arrived causing us to all came off the ice for a few pictures and some of us bought a few refreshments. Afterwards the Crew got back out on the ice and had a fun time, either trying not to fall or messing with our friends who were about to fall. During the last few minutes before I left, the whole group got together to take a few pictures of us as a Crew. I enjoyed the event very much and if the entire Crew wants to go again you know what my vote will be for. |

Congratulations and thanks go to Jake and Dante, who gave a wonderful presentation to the Crew's new hosts at the Port Gamble Masons at their Lodge's monthly meeting on December 8th. They covered the four traditional programs of BSA: Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. Observing as guests of the Masons were the District Executive and the Council Scout Executive. There's a genuine interest in starting a Cub Scout Pack in the Port Gamble area, and the Council is hoping to plant the seed so that the Masons would serve as the sponsor. |

Hey Crew,
Last Thursday's meeting was a great success. Here are some of the upcoming events:
Summer Super Activity = We voted for the Odyssey Cruise!!! Those of you who don't know, the Odyssey Cruise is a week of sailing around the San Juan Islands in a 90 ft sail boat. A group of 12 (two adults and 10 youth) costs $8,500, so just over $700 per person. We'll need to factor in transportation to/from Poulsbo/Friday Harbor. [Ed: we'll also run a Kodiak course during the cruise].
Roller Skating All-Nighter = November 27-28th (Next Weekend) Brody is the activity chair for this event so an email will be sent out by him with details.
Ice Skating = December 19th. Mick K is the activity chair.
Chief Seattle Council Venturing Winter Event = January 7-9th. Brody will send out details closer to the event.
Snow Caving = January 15-16th. Melissa and Dante will be Co-Activity chairs for this event.
Clear your Calendars for Council VOA general Assembly = April 1st-3rd and Kayaking during the first week of August.
Zack, Crew President |

An intrepid group from Crew 42 spent an All-Nighter at Bremerton's Skateland arena, rocking to the latest hits and roller skating (some were roller blading) for 10 straight hours. We don't know how many laps or miles that represented, but we do know they all slept well after getting home the next morning and collapsing!

It's the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Yes, it's Veterans Day, a federal holiday that was first known as Armistice Day and marked the end of the Great War (WWI) and renamed and expanded in 1954 by the American Congress to honor the service of all veterans. In Washington State, the largest event is the one held at the giant Sunlink Pavilion at the Kitsap County Fairgounds. Attendance this year was around 1,500. Crew 42 has attended every year since the event was founded, and serves as VIP escorts for the many dignitaries, elected officials, senior military officers, and special guests....rubbing elbows with Admirals, County Commissioners and City Mayors, the County Sheriff, Pearl Harbor survivors, etc. Among this year's guests were American veterans who had been held as Prisoners of War in Germany, the South Pacific, and Vietnam. The keynote speaker was a six-year prisoner in the infamous Hanoi Hilton....and who was a Scout as a youth. Our chartering organization, Poulsbo Post 245 of the American Legion, was also at the Pavilion today and was pleased to have Venturers Brody, Nick, Mick, Sam, Jake, and Dante tending to their duties in behalf of the Crew.
