What started with a cloudy, misty Sunday morning ended with a wonderfully sunny, warm late afternoon and a perfect setting for Jake K's Eagle Court of Honor at the Gamblewood Community Park overlooking Port Gamble Bay. As only Jake would have it, the ceremony was low-key, relaxed, and efficient, shared with his family and close friends from the Crew and his old Boy Scout troop. Jake's donning of the Eagle rank represents the 11th member of the Crew to wear those wings.
In addition to his Eagle medal, Jake was presented with a citizenship citation from the American Legion who sponsors the Crew. Further, it was announced that Jake has been selected to the BSA's National Youth Leadership Society, with a ceremony at the Chief Seattle Council for presentation later this fall. In addition to all his high adventure treks in kayaks, rafts, and afoot across the western USA, Jake also completed a massive list of leadership courses, including the National Youth Leadership Training, the Venturing Leadership Skills Course, Crew Leadership Training, Kodiak, and Kodiak X. He also later staffed a Kodiak X course as well as two Wood Badge for the 21st Century courses. Jake's impressive resume made him an easy choice for induction to the Society.
